What’s Happening?

As one of Texas’ largest providers of home health care services, AccentCare delivers high-quality home-based care to thousands of seniors across the state. Over recent months, we’ve been negotiating with Humana for a new contract that more adequately covers the total cost of our care delivery, enabling us to improve care quality and outcomes for our patients. Unfortunately, Humana has refused to join us in meaningful discussion.

Our existing agreement with Humana expired September 1st and is impacting the services we deliver to nearly 9,000 of their Medicare Advantage members. By forcing AccentCare out-of-network, Humana is forcing seniors across Texas that use our home care providers to find a new nurse or caregiver—all because Humana refuses to collaborate with us to protect the care they deserve. It isn’t right.

What You Can Do?

If you or a loved one receives home care services covered by a Humana Medicare Advantage plan, you must act now to protect your affordable access to the home care you deserve.

  • Call Humana immediately. Using the number on the back of your health insurance card, speak with a Humana representative directly. Let them know it is critical you maintain access to the AccentCare home health provider who knows your lifestyle and health history. You shouldn’t be forced to find someone new.
  • Speak with your health insurance broker. Express your concerns with a health insurance broker. These individuals may have a direct line to Humana and can advocate on your behalf to protect your affordable access to AccentCare and the caregivers you know and trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

Humana, one of Texas’ largest health insurers, is trying to reduce payment rates for home health services delivered by AccentCare and is requiring our nurses and caregivers to use outdated and burdensome healthcare measures, such as imposing visit limits, that are not in the best interest of patients.

Despite our best efforts to collaborate with Humana to reach a new agreement that protects access to the home health care services seniors rely on, Humana has refused to negotiate in good faith. As a result, they may force AccentCare out-of-network effective August 9, 2023. If this occurs, Humana will cause more than 9,000 Texas seniors to lose affordable access to the home healthcare services, and the nurses and caregivers, they deserve.

Patients who receive health insurance coverage through a Humana Medicare Advantage health plan may be impacted if Humana refuses to collaborate with us before August 9 when our existing agreement expires.

AccentCare partners with health systems across Texas to provide high-quality home healthcare services for qualifying seniors. At this time, our negotiations impact patients with Humana Medicare Advantage plans who receive home health services from AccentCare. If you are unsure as to which service provides your home health care, please ask your nurse or caregiver.

No, patients do not need to transition their care to another provider. Patients will not lose their current services, and at this time, AccentCare is still accepting new Humana patients.

We are committed to our patients and ensuring you have access to the home health care you deserve. We continue to work diligently with Humana to reach an agreement that protects access to the care you rely on. While we continue to express concern that Humana’s lack of good-faith negotiations compromise care for more than 9,000 Texas seniors, your voice can help. Call Humana directly and urge them to prioritize their member’s care.

No, our negotiations only affect patients covered by Humana Medicare Advantage health plans.

If Humana refuses to reach a new agreement with AccentCare that protects patient access to the home health services they rely on, we will be forced out of network for individuals with Humana Medicare Advantage plans, effective August 9. This means that Humana will no longer cover the home health services you receive from your AccentCare nurse or caregiver at in-network costs and you may be required to pay more out-of-pocket.

Humana will urge you to find a new home health service provider; however, you should advocate for continued access to the nurse and/or caregiver you trust. Call Humana directly at the number on the back of your health insurance card and urge them to protect the care you rely on.

  • Urge Humana to put patients first. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and urge Humana to maintain your in-network access to AccentCare so the high-quality care you rely on isn’t jeopardized. Your insurance company shouldn’t compromise on the care you trust and deserve.
  • Nothing changes for now. At this time, there is no need to transition your care. We are still in-network with Humana until August 9 and will continue to negotiate in good-faith so the care you trust and deserve is not disrupted.

Yes, we are still accepting new patients with Humana Medicare Advantage health plans as we continue to negotiate to remain in Humana’s network.
